Thou shalt not eat...

This is lovely Savannah Bay on the island of Virgin Gorda in the BVI. It's one of the most gorgeous beaches in the entire British Virgin Islands. There's almost nothing NOT to like about the clear turquoise water, the white sandy beach, the quiet unspoiled area, the lush green trees...uh...well...hold on...

...wait a minute. I mean the um, lush green POISONOUS trees...

...that's right, those deadly Manchineel Trees. I could definitely do without those. In case you can't read the notice below, it relates the information that one should take extreme caution not to eat, touch or sit under a Manchineel Tree. The tree contains powerful toxins and eating the fruit (cute little apples) may be fatal. But that's not all! TOUCHING the tree bark can cause blisters. And in case that didn't scare you off...if you happen to be sitting underneath one and it RAINS...the tree sap will BURN your skin. Yeah, apparently the Caribs used the sap to poison their arrow tips in days past.

I guess that's why Savannah Beach remains so beautiful and unspoiled.
